About the Module

In October 2022, US Surgeon General  Vivek Murthy (a paragon of love and courage) published a mental health and well-being framework. The Community Wellness *by Design Module was created with this framework in mind, specifically — the essentials for learning and growth and connection and community.  The Module lessons invite the Lexington Public School Community to share experiences and engage in conversation around behavioral science work, recognizing the interconnectedness of physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being. Nurturing wellness enhances resilience, fosters positive relationships, and enables individuals to pursue life worth living. This collective experience positions wellness as a fundamental and proactive pursuit for redefining our relationships with ourselves and others, considering the finitude of time and resources and orienting us to optimal health and fulfilling paths and goals. The effort is inspired by:

During the 2023-24 school year, we are launching a wellness partnership between Lexington Public Schools, the Foundation for Family and Community Healing, and Daily Haloha.

The program includes online self-paced experiences to build healthy habits for students, staff, and parents and a collective ritual using the social wellness app Daily Haloha. In just 2 minutes a day, the Daily Haloha experience involves shared question prompts for self-reflection and is a practice of gratitude, compassion, and empathy and excites a sense of togetherness to look forward to each day. Some positives of the designed wellness program include:

Holistic Development: A shared wellness program encourages the holistic development of individuals, focusing not only on academic growth but also on emotional, social, and physical well-being and nurtures well-rounded individuals equipped with better human being skills.

Strengthened Relationships: A shared wellness program encourages healthy connection and communication and improves relationships, leading to better understanding and collaboration and a sense of belonging and support within the community.

Positive School Culture: Together, a commitment to personal growth and well-being creates an environment where kindness, respect, and understanding are prioritized.

This first-of-its-kind invite for The LPS Community to collectively develop personal awareness and healthy habits will open up the possibilities for us and those around us. Join us in centering wellness for ourselves and our community!
